At Citizens Advice Bolton, all our initial advice is free - including Immigration Advice.

In addition to this advice service we can also offer casework support with any applications.

This additional casework is available through two means – the first one is through the Legal Aid service and the second is via a fee paying service.

Legal Aid

Unfortunately, changes to the legal aid system means that only a small amount of Asylum applications as well as Victims of Domestic Violence are able to have a case funded by the legal aid service.

Fee Paying

All casework that isn’t covered under legal aid is now available through our fee paying service, where you pay at not for profit rates.  We are cheaper than other companies because we don’t pay shareholders and we don’t have staff members on huge amounts of money.  All initial advice is still free.

Should you contact our specialist immigration advice team, they will be able to give you free advice as to your options and rights.  Should you require further casework support, they will also be able to advice you on whether legal aid is available for this before considering the fee paying option.

Important notice

Immigration advice service – UPDATE
 
Following the closure of the immigration advice service at Citizens Advice Bolton in February, the Board of Trustees have made the decision to delay the reopening of the service (which had been initially been anticipated to recommence in early April). 
 
It is with great regret, that we have had to make the very difficult decision to further delay our immigration advice service to new clients. 
 
We are actively keeping the capacity in the team under review, and will make a further decision about reopening our immigration service at the beginning of May. Our website boltoncab.co.uk will be kept up to date.
 
We understand that this continued temporary closure will cause a degree of inconvenience, especially to clients. However, we must stress that this decision has not been taken lightly.
 
This decision has been drawn from our ability to provide exceptional immigration advice, leading to significant demand on the existing team. We are currently recruiting for further staffing into the team. 
 
This is a necessary decision, which will allow us to fulfil our promises to all those clients we have already signed up (either via legal aid or fee-paying), while ensuring that we continue to provide a high quality and effective service.
 
If a client presents at our drop-in service with an immigration query, they will be provided with a leaflet advising of this suspension, and directed to home.oisc.gov.uk/adviser_finder/finder.asp, to find alternative provision in their area.

 
All other advice areas, delivered by Citizens Advice Bolton, will continue unchanged during this temporary suspension of immigration advice.
