Cut hundreds from energy costs with Big Energy Saving Week

Bolton and District Citizens Advice Bureau (Bolton CAB) will be out and about helping people to cut hundreds of pounds from their energy bills during next week’s Big Energy Saving Week.

As the nights start to draw in, Bolton CAB is offering free advice to help consumers save energy, cut their bills and get all the support they are entitled to.

Advisers from  Bolton CAB, will be at Bolton’s UCAN Centres and Horwich Resource Centre as part of their outreach service where they will be able to help residents find out how they can make sure they are not spending any more than they have to on their energy bills as well as providing there normal social welfare advice.

On Tuesday, Wednesday (9.30 am – 3.30pm) and Friday (10.00am – 3.30pm), people can also visit Bolton CAB’s Social Welfare Drop In to find out how to save on their bills.

People can get help and advice on how to check they are on the best deal, switch tariff or supplier and take up help to insulate their homes and reduce their energy usage.

By taking action to check, switch and insulate, consumers could make savings on their energy bills:

-       £130 each year by making simple changes to everyday behaviours to become more energy efficient

-       Up to £320 a year from insulating and retrofitting your home

-       £110 average saving paying by direct debit rather than cash or cheque for your gas and electricity

-       Up to £200 saving for switching tariff or supplier if you have never switched before

Bolton CAB Chief Officer - Richard Wilkinson said:

“During Big Energy Saving Week we’ll be helping consumers to check, switch and insulate to bring their energy costs down. We’re keen to make sure that no-one pays a penny more than they need to on energy costs, so we’re helping people to find practical ways of cutting their energy bills.”

Big Energy Saving Week is a national campaign running from 20 to 24 October 2014 supported by Government and led by Citizens Advice in partnership with Energy Saving Trust, Age UK and Action with Communities in Rural England.
